Accuracy Enhancing Interface Treatment Algorithm: The Back and Forth Error Compensation and Correction Method

The accuracy of information transmission while solving domain decomposed problems is crucial to the smooth transition a solution around interface/overlapping region. This paper describes systematical study on an accuracy-enhancing interface treatment algorithm based back and forth error compensation correction method (BFECC). By repetitively employing low order interpolation technique (usually local 2nd order) 3 times, this achieves 3rd accuracy. Analytical derivation for any dimensions made, “superconvergence” phenomenon (4th accuracy) found specific positioning source target grids. Its limitation has also been studied. With rotated grids or different sizes, can still reduce but fails improve underlying technique. A series numerical experiments meshes with various translations, rotations, spacing ratios, perturbations have tested. Different treatments applied cavity flow are compared. 3D example shows that BFECC positively impacts convergence problem.
